Sports Weekend 2006
For the first time in many years, Sports Weekend went by with no rain at all. Pr ep School sports took place on Thursday in glorious sunshine; it was slightly duller for Junior School sports on the Friday; and the weekend was warm and sunny. Many parents and Former Pupils enjoyed being in Dollar during the four days of activities.
The marquee was in a slightly different location this year, but was, as usual, open all day on the Saturday for refreshments and for friends to meet. The athletics championships were watched by a large crowd, many of whom were grateful for the ice cream and soft drinks provided by the Parents’ Association.
The Former Pupil Sherry Party took place in the library in the Playfair Building, and many who were there came down to the marquee for Supper and Music. This year Craig McMurdo and That Swing Thang provided the entertainment which was stylish and exuberant. Craig, a Former Pupil of the Academy, enjoys coming back with his band. He was amazed to see that the record he set for the 200m in 1981 still stands 25 years later.
On Sunday the Pipe Band put on a fabulous display, again watched by a large and appreciative crowd. Over sixty pipers and drummers took part, ranging from Prep School pupils to those at the top end of the Senior School.
