Rector's Prize Day Report

End of summer term at Dollar Academy was marked on Thursday 29th June by Prizegiving in the Assembly Hall.

Chairman of the Governors, Mr John Cameron CBE, presided over the packed hall of parents, pupils and staff. The Rector, Mr John Robertson, delivered his report of the year’s achievements on an A-Z basis. He presented a special lightweight Academy flag to seasoned traveller John Cameron who will shortly leave on a trip to the North Pole.

The guest speaker was former pupil, Mrs Caroline Flanagan, who had just finished her year in office as President of the Law Society of Scotland. She described her interesting experiences as President, including travel to Chicago, Dubrovnik and Vancouver, and as a partner in the Dunfermline legal firm of Ross and Connel. She praised the many prize-winners, including top senior pupils, Kirsten Abel (Form V) and Kerstin Leslie (Form VI), but her main theme was one of general congratulation: “You are all clever pupils”.

An exciting, heart-in-mouth moment of her year in office had been the Donald Dewar Memorial Debate, run by the Law Society in the main chamber of the Scottish Parliament. Academy pupils Katie Trim and Tarni Duhre were the eventual winners of this highly competitive event.
