‘Annie’ – Participants’ Viewpoints

From the moment we found out that the Junior 2 musical was ‘Annie’, the whole year group was buzzing with excitement. We all set out to get a main part and many of us were successful. The starring role of Annie was given to Suzie Hammond who, in my opinion, really deserved it.

As soon as rehearsals began we knew we were in for a very enjoyable experience. Everyone went to weekly rehearsals on Thursday and Friday mornings, but principals needed extra practice and often went after school……and never wanted to go home!

At one rehearsal, Catherine Shedden, the actress who plays Miss Hannigan, was away and so Kirsty Nicoll, Lily St. Regis, rose to the challenge of temporarily playing both roles with hilarious results!

Overall, we have all had a memorable experience and have enjoyed every minute of it. The principals have become better and better and the servants and orphans have worked together very well. We will all remember this experience until we reach Form 6……and beyond.

As the gentle pitter-patter of feet ceased and the lights brightened, I slowly became aware of many eyes eagerly waiting. For weeks, Junior 2 had sung their hearts out to an empty auditorium; now, hopefully, all of that practice would pay off. Our singing had reached a perfect crescendo, the accompanying dances were as polished as they would ever be and costumes, along with fantastic scenery and props, highlighted the depressing drudge of an orphanage or the pristine appearance of Mr Warbucks mansion. The first chord rang out to transport the characters and audience into the intriguing tale of Annie. In what felt like moments, we were taking our curtain call. Applause shook the auditorium and our beaming faces radiated pride. Performing Annie was a memorable experience and thanks must go to everyone who made this possible.
