End of Term Triathlon

Fortunately the sun was shining for Dollar Academy's second ever triathlon competition, although whether this warm weather was a help or hindrance is debatable. Competitors had to swim 16 lengths in the pool, followed by a 10k cycle to Harvieston Farm and back, and then finish with a gruelling 4k run around Castle Campbell. Competitors could enter alone, or as part of a group, the names of which ranged from 'The Moos' to 'Team Jam'.

In first place was Ryan Paterson (Form VI), finishing in 54 minutes 6 seconds and beating last year's winning time of 55 minutes 17seconds. He was closely followed by Rowena Bell-Scott (Form VI), who finished under a minute later, with her brother, Angus (Form VI) coming 3rd overall. The first group to win were Ramrod (Jamie McPhail, Sean Smith and David Parsons), with the time of 57 minutes 53 seconds. There were also notable fourth year successes, with Angus Tester coming 5th and Victoria Elder 8th.

When asked why triathlons are such popular events, Victoria Elder (Form IV) claimed that the variety of activities enabled everyone to ‘play to their strengths, whilst offering a challenge for every entrant.’

Winner Ryan Paterson, who starred in the recent musical as Ariel the Robot, said: ‘It was a good way to end Sixth Year after my three years at Dollar Academy.’
